Blog #4: Compare two groups of Internet users (such as Men/Women, Teens/Adults, Hispanics/nonhispanics)

Men and women use the internet very differently. On an infographic on the website Online Social Media, I discovered that women and men use different websites more often. 76% of women use Facebook and 66% of men use it. The way they use Facebook differs as well. Women spend more time than men posting and browsing. Women post 55% more than men. Women also have 58% more friends than men. When it comes to playing games on Facebook, 69% of women have played Facebook games wheras only 31% of men have. Every single month, there are 40 million more visits to twitter from women than men. Instagram is also dominated by females. 20% of women internet users use Instagram and 15% of men internet users use it. On Instagram, a woman is more apt to follow a brands account than a female is. When men do follow Instagram accounts, they tend to follow energy drink brands and sports related brands. When women follow brands on Instagram they tend to follow makeup and fashion brands. Another social media that consists of more women than men is Pinterest. Only 8% of men internet users have a Pinterest, but 33% of female internet users use the social media. There are social media platforms that more men use than women. Linkedin is male dominated- 24% of male internet users are on it while only 19% of female users do. 64% of men internet users use Google+ and only 36% of women do. Out of the 280 million active Youtbe users, 54% of users are male and 46% are female. On the daily, 25% of men watch videos and only 17% of women watch Youtube videos each day. Men spend an average of an hour online but women only spend about 35 minutes.

Blog #3: Write about one famous person or event in Web history since 2001.The launch of Twitter

You know who Tom from MySpace is. You know who Mark Zuckerberg is. But do you know who Evan Williams is?

Evan Williams is a young entrepreneur who has made a major impact on the current state of the internet and social media. Evan, along with his business partners Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone and Noah Glass created the online social networking service Twitter.

Twitter was created in March of 2006 and launched in June of the same year. Evan Williams served as an investor and board member for Twitter for a few years and in 2008 he replaced his Twitter cofounder Jack Dorsey as CEO of the company. In October 2010 Evan Williams stepped down from his position as CEO so he could focus on product strategy.

But before Twitter, Evan Williams had already made a name for himself in the web history books. Williams, a college dropout started his career working for various technology companies and did freelance developing codes. These jobs lead him to starting his own company called Pyra Labs. He started this company with Meg Hourihan and they both came up with the idea of creating an online application for creating and managing weblogs. What came from this idea has seriously changed the Internet forever. The website they created was the one you are currently on right now---BLOGGER. Not only did he create this website, but he also created the term blogger (person who blogs)! In 2003 Blogger was bought out by Google.

With such a talented resume, what’s next for Evan Williams?

Well, Williams created a new blogging website called Medium with one of his Twitter cofounders Biz Stone in 2012. Medium was launch to the public in 2013. Medium is different from other blogging sites because it helps you focus on writing. There are fewer distractions like sidebars and what not. It’s a simple, easy to use and visually appealing format. It also helps you collaborate easily with other bloggers and find your audience.
