Blog #5 Find an effective and uneffective use of PR online

Effective use of PR online-

One very effetive use of PR is the Tylenol murder case in October 1982. Extra strength Tylenol capsulse were tampered with in Chicgao. The killer injected 65 mgs od cyanide into the capsules, resulting in seven deaths. Tylenol was not directly to blame for this because te posioning occured after the product was placed on shelves. However, this occurance could have ruined their reputation for good withouta little help from some ver effective public relations. Tylenol immediatly took all of their products off shelves while the investigation began. They also stopped all advertising of their product. When the investigation oncluded that only Tylenol capsules were poisioned, Tylenol allowed people to exhange their capsules with solid tablets. Tylenol really pulled off this tradgedy by putting money making on the backburner and just focusing on the health and safety of their customers.

Ineffecitve use of PR online -
Abercrombie and Fitch, the controversial teen clothing brand is definitely no stranger to bad Public Relations. One example of bad PR was when the company used their advetising to announce that they would like Mike The Situation from MTVs Jersey Shore to stop wearing their brand. They claimed that The Situation was not worthy of wearing their brand. This majorly backfired on Abercrombie. Not only did their comapny share drop from $8.28, a nine month low but The Situation also sued Abercrombie.
